West Bengal Agricultural Income tax Service

WEST BENGAL AGRICULTURAL INCOME TAX SERVICE is a constituted state service since 1944 just like wbcs (exe), commercital tax etc. The direct officers recruited through WBCS Gr-A examination along with all other Group A services.

The Directorate of Agricultural Income Tax is at New Secretariat building (12 th floor), kolkata-1. This directorate is under Finance ( Revenue) Department, Govt. of West Bengal.

Presently except only Purba Medinipur, in all the districts the office of the Agricultural Income Tax Officer is situated. The office at Purba Medinipur will be started soon. Also the E-Governance project is being initiated in this Directorate within November 2011 all the offices including District Offices of this Directorate will be connected through high speed intranet with dedicated server.

This directorate is responsible for collecting Agricultural Income tax and Cess ( Primary Educatin cess and Rural employment cess ) from Tea production within West Bengal. But presently the highest revenue of this Directorate is coming from some other amusement taxes like- Luxury & entertainment tax from A.C. Hotels and restaurants, Entertainment tax from cinema halls, Multiplex, high profile sports ( IPL, Messi match at salt lake statidum), Casual shows like musical soiree, drama etc. Entertainment Tax from amusement parks like Nicco Park, Nalban boating complex, Aqatika etc.Amusement tax from cable TV and DTH Operators, video halls, and recently ( wef 15.7.2011) imposed charge for on line and paper lotteries also.

The number of officers is the lowest among all other Group A services but at present this service has the highest potentiality as same as Commercial Tax and WBCS ( Exe) regarding promotion and higher scale benefit.
